Our company is called CLJNproductions which is simply our initials. We wanted to keep this simple as we don't want the audience to have many pre-conceptions of what our film will be like.
Below is the first draft of our logo.
The first element that we decided was the colour scheme of Blue, Black and White. We chose black and white as simple background colours to our main focus of the Blue. For us Blue is a signifier of serenity, trust, loyalty, confidence and intelligence. It is also a very masculine colour which fits with our action based opening. Finally blue is often associated with the police force and we would like to reference that as we are creating a cop drama.
The issues we found with this logo was firstly that it had little reference to our plot and style with the water effect and therefore it did not seem relevant. In addition the logo didn't look as effective when cropped to fit in our social media profiles which is a key part of our company identity. The background appears to overpower the image when cropped.
Our second draft of our logo was hand drawn with out a background to try and prevent distraction from the name.
The main advantage of this logo other than having less distractions, for us was that the L and the J were conjoined. Partnerships are a key element in Crime Dramas as you often see two Detectives or one main detective and their side kick. For example Sherlock and Watson from Sherlock or Walter White and Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad.
We then scanned the hand drawn logo into the computer and edited it slightly to try and make it look more professional. The results were as follows.
Despite liking the connected L and J, and the blue colour we found two main issues with this draft of the logo. One of these was the positioning of the word productions. We found that there was a large space above the N and the elongated section at the bottom made it difficult to have a profile pictures and widgets. The second problem we faced was that when asking people on our Facebook Page for their feedback a few people said that it didn't look very professional.
We then created the 'CLJN' element of our logo on the computer as well and hoped that would make us look more credible.
This logo looks a lot more professional due to the sharp edges on the text and the alignment of the letters. We placed the word productions which creates a more rounded image. The responses from the facebook page were also complimentary.
The final version of our logo is in black and white. This is the logo that we have used on our film opening. We realised that the colour blue has some connotations that we don't want to attach to our film such as serenity and royalty whereas this monochrome colour scheme is simple yet effective.
